Death doula, an ancient figure

The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek and means “a woman who serves.”

Traditionally, this word has been used to refer to women who offer both emotional and practical support and guidance during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Due to the similarities and parallels between birth and death, we have gradually come to adopt the term doula to refer to the person who accompanies the rite of passage of death, with the wide range of knowledge and tasks that this entails.

Certified by the University of New England (UNE) in the US as an “End-of-Life Pet Doula” in 2025.
